Venture Stores was May Company’s entry into the upscale discount store business. Based in St. Louis Venture Stores in 1976, the chain was eventually sold.

The Wholesale Club was the 1st of the Price Club clones, 1982-1991, based in Indianapolis. It grew from zero to $1 billion in sales in 7 years. The chain of 29 warehouses was sold to Sam Walton’s Sam’s Club in early 1991.
